In partnership with the Church, GRN aims to effectively communicate the Good News of the Lord Jesus Christ by means of culturally appropriate audio and audio-visual materials in every language.
GRN Australia is an Australian non-profit entity established in 1939. GRN Australia is part of Global Recordings Network (GRN) (Formerly Gospel Recordings/Language Recordings), a network of interdependent Centers and Bases operating in more than 30 countries. The Network exists to make the truth of God’s word available to the people of our world who do not read and/or who do not have access to other suitable or appropriate material which enable them to receive God’s word.
Some GRN Centers have more of a support role through mobilization of prayer and the provision of finance, equipment, training, resources and technical support. Other Centers are primarily involved in the tasks of recording, distributing and using the resources produced. The audio and audio visual materials produced by GRN are made available to other missions and local churches and evangelist as well as being used by their own teams involved in outreach ministry.
GRN does not do formal Bible translation. Rather it aims to tell the Bible stories and basic Bible messages in simple language and culturally appropriate style. Its library of over 400 scripts and three audiovisual programs (Good News; Look, Listen and Live; and The Living Christ) are closely based on Bible passages. Every effort is made to communicate the truth of God’s word accurately. Over the years a range of techniques for making recordings and checking the content of them has been developed. These techniques can be used even where there is no written language and Scriptures have not been translated. From time to time, GRN recording teams also record pre-translated Scriptures.
The audio-visual presentations, which include sets of Bible pictures to be used with an audio recording, are particularly useful for helping people to engage with and understand the Biblical message.
GRN also develops and produces specialized playback equipment to enable those without access to electricity to hear the recordings.
GRN recordings are available on audiocassette, CD’s and DVD’s and as mp3 files – many downloadable from the Internet. More than 10,000 programs are currently available in over 5,700 language and dialects. GRN Australia plays a key role in the development, production and distribution of these resources.
