The World Bible Translation Center (WBTC) exists to translate and distribute faithful, easy-to-understand translations of the Scriptures in the world's major languages to lead people to Jesus and help believers grow in faith.

WBTC's ministry is based on these principles and values:

1. Above everything else, we seek to glorify God. We are God-centered.

2. We are committed to faithfully expressing the meaning of the Scriptures as written in the original languages. We provide accurate translations.

3. We believe that God gave all Scripture as His inspired revelation of truth and that it is vital for everyone. We are committed to providing complete Bibles.

4. We will distribute Scriptures in the most effective ways possible including partnerships with churches and ministries. We are committed to making the Word available to everyone.

5. We seek support and steward our finances with the highest integrity. We are responsible to God and our donors.
 
WBTC was begun in 1973. Its first project was a simple English translation that would communicate to the deaf. The resulting English Version for the Deaf, a special-purpose translation on a third-grade level that is virtually free of difficult English idioms, was published in 1978. It provided the basis for WBTC's Easy-to-Read Version, which in turn was a source for the popular International Children's Bible/New Century Version.

From this beginning has grown a significant translation ministry for some of the world's major languages. WBTC has published 30 New Testaments and 17 Bibles. All translation work is based on the original Hebrew, Greek, and Aramaic texts.

Billions of people in our world think of the Christian faith as something foreign and have no access to Scripture, believers, or even enlightened conversation on the basic message of the life, death and resurrection of Jesus. Many of them do not even have the Scriptures translated into their mother tongue. These people are the reason World Bible Translation Center exists.
