The purpose of The Bible League is to partner with Christians around the world, providing God's Word to:

• Bring people into fellowship with Christ
• Nurture Christians through Bible study
• Train church leaders to start new churches

Bible League's beginnings date back to 1938, when William and Betty Chapman became aware that many families in their home community had no Bibles. After securing promises that Bibles would be read if provided, the Chapman’s purchased and gave 45 Bibles to their neighbors in Walkerton, Indiana. Soon they were seeking out Bibleless homes all over the greater Chicago area. As news of their generosity spread, requests began pouring in from numerous other places. They began working to mobilize local churches and organizations who could identify the Bibleless in their own communities and organize the actual placement of Bibles, while they themselves focused on serving as suppliers. Out of this humble beginning came the American Home Bible League, later known as the World Home Bible League as the ministry expanded outside the U.S., and now known simply as the Bible League.

Today the residents of more than 80 countries in North and South America, Africa, Asia, and Europe have received Bibles, New Testaments, Scripture portions, and Bible study materials through the ministry of the Bible League working in cooperation with local churches and missions. These Scriptures have become tools in the hands of Christians all over the world, who have effectively used them to evangelize unbelievers, incorporate them into local churches, and disciple them. It is this evangelism and discipleship, rather than sheer numbers of Scriptures distributed, by which the Bible League measures the effectiveness of their ministry. "We do not just want to make Scriptures available. We want people to know Jesus Christ!"
